Modern Exterior Roofing

I rated them a 3 as they aren't 100% forthright in there sales. We had chimney stone work and tuckpointing on our home that needed to be completed. When they came for the estimate they noted that the mechanical chimney needed to be completely rebuilt and flashed and the fireplace had the same issues not near as bad. This was due to crumbling mortar, the crown on the fireplace was not built correctly and caused issues with water etc. We checked references, BBB, insurance etc. and decided to contract with them. All went fairly well the mason was very pleasant and was quiet and respectful of our property. It took about 1 week and things went seemingly well. Fast forward 1 year, we had the fireplace inspected and cleaned. What was revealed was a chimney fire and damage to include the crown of the fireplace was cracked. The inspectors stated the crack was due to the fact that the crown was not constructed properly. The mason failed to place an expansion joint around the flu which would have prevented the crack. What was also noticed was, the overhang was not quite enough and the thickness was thinner than required. Finally their mason did not place a water tight barrier between the crown and stone work. This also is not to code. I received the estimate for the chimney rebuild, which included a crown. I then called Modern exterior and advised them of the situation. They said they would come and replace the crown but will not re-imburse us for that work. I stated why would I want you to come and do this again when you aren't qualified to do it in the first place. (Which they should have told us that up front) I am a stickler for honesty, integrity and being forthright. If a contractor states they can do the work but does not even do it right, why be in business. I will never recommend them just for this fact.

I had my gutters replaced and with leaf guards on my house. Everything from sales to the installation were exceptional and professional. Will consider this company for future home projects.
